It has been an incredibly difficult year for the league featuring some of the lowest regular fields in the history of LFS Bangers.

I will admit this now: earlier this year, I had originally planned to quit at the end of this season as I just didn't feel committed to it any more. I even had a post prepared that I would have put on the forum on 30th November. But I decided against it because that would have let all of you down.

Now with Brett on board, I'm looking forward to 2018.

The above aside, nine drivers attended the Christmas Fun Meet which featured a variety of tracks and cars. I genuinely forgot about the meeting and therefore everything was done "on the fly", which went okay until I ran out of ideas after 3 races! As mentioned before, I sincerely apologise for this massive blunder.

The results were as follows:

Westhill Oval Unlims: Michal, Cap, Rik, Colin

South City Oval Micros: Rik, Michal, Miniman, Cap, Jam, Colin, Brett, Jon, Pepino

Fern Bay Oval 2 Litre Ramp Race: Michal, Jam, Miniman, Brett, Rik, Pepino, Colin

Tilburg 2 Litres: Michal, Jam, Miniman, Rik, Cap, Colin, Pepino, Brett

Birmingham Robins: Miniman, Jam, Rik, Brett, Cap, Pepino, Michal, Colin

Double Figure 8 Unlims: Rik, Michal, Cap, Jam, Miniman, Jon, Brett

Dirt Bangers Unlims: Miniman, Jam, Rik, Brett, Jon, Cap

Blackwood Car Park Non-Posts 2 Litres Race 1: Rik, Jam, Cap, Pepino, Michal, Colin

Blackwood Car Park Non-Posts 2 Litres Race 2: Rik, Jam, Colin, Pepino, Brett

All Cars Grass DD: Brett (UF1)

Well done to all who won tonight. :)

This was a well-attended meeting with 4 non-qualified drivers in attendance: the 3 previously mentioned and 228 Splat. As a result, a Last Chance Qualifier was held to determine the order of the 4 non-qualifiers on the grid.

That result was as follows: Joshua, Matthew, Tilson, Splat

Consequently, the grid for the 2017 European Championship was as follows (inside on the left, outside on the right):

27 Cap - - - - - - - - - - - - - 616 Jam (C)
47 Michal - - - - - - - - - - - 66 Colin
669 Mr. Perfect Jr. - - - - - 786 Brett
606 Jon - - - - - - - - - - - - 870 Looney
474 Miniman - - - - - - - - - 515 Joshua
996 Matthew - - - - - - - - - 217 Tilson
228 Splat - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

One driver got ahead early on and despite a fantastic battle with another racer in particular, held on for his first graded title...

2017 EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIP:
1st: Michal
2nd: Miniman
3rd: Josuha
Other finishers: Looney, Matthew, Jam, Colin, Mr. Perfect Jr., Cap, Splat

After his success in the Banger World Series Championship race, Czech driver Michal followed up in some style by snatching the European title off his PiranMoto teammate Jam. #47 got ahead early, and despite competition from West Country Wreckers teammates Looney and Brett (the latter rolling out of contention in a major final for the second time in a row) it was Team Bandicoot's Miniman who kept with Michal all the way but crucially could never get past him, and with #616 and Mr. Perfect Jr. both going on the attack to get their man to win, it was a margin of 0.60 SECONDS that decided the destiny of the red and yellow chequered roof. Michal showed his ability at the end of last year but with a year's experience, has finally claimed some big honours. #474 had to settle for second again while Joshua demonstrated his skill by claiming his first LFS Bangers major podium place in third.

Here are the results from the other races that took place on Friday, which were all non-points. Well done to all the winners:

Heat 1: Jam, Joshua, Michal, Cap, Looney, Miniman, Brett, Colin, Splat, Jon
Heat 2: Joshua, Jam, Cap, Colin, Michal, Tilson, Splat, Looney, Jon
Heat 3: Cap, Jam, Joshua, Brett, Tilson, Splat, Colin, Jon, Looney, Michal, Miniman
Heat 4: Michal, Cap, Joshua, Jam, Tilson, Looney, Matthew, Jon, Splat, Colin
Heat 5: Joshua, Cap, Miniman, Matthew, Jam, Michal, Jon, Splat, Looney, Colin
Heat 6: Cap, Michal, Jam, Brett, Matthew, Joshua, Looney, Colin

Final: Miniman, Cap, Jam, Matthew, Brett, Joshua, Jon, Tilson, Colin

Allcomers 1: Cap, Jam, Looney, Michal, Brett, Miniman, Colin, Splat, Joshua
Allcomers 2 (into DD): Joshua, Miniman, Michal, Cap, Brett, Colin, Splat, Jam, Matthew, Jon, Looney

DD: Splat

Pleasingly, just three of the fifteen qualified drivers failed to attend and with only one non-qualified driver in attendance - 128 Isaac - there was no Last Chance Qualifier held. Therefore, the first Micro Bangers World Final featured 13 drivers as follows:

870 Looney - - - - - - 27 Cap
616 Jam - - - - - - - - 66 Colin
961 Pepino - - - - - - 606 Jon
786 Brett - - - - - - - 997 Rik
306 Pierce - - - - - - 47 Michal
474 Miniman - - - - - 228 Splat
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - 128 Isaac

Although the final looked done and dusted early on, some big hits on oppo changed the lead around a fair bit before one driver prevailed...

2017 MICRO BANGERS WORLD FINAL:
1st: Rik
2nd: Miniman
3rd: Michal
Other finishers: Colin, Pepino, Isaac, Jam, Cap, Brett, Looney, Jon

The Netherlands' dominant force Rik made it back-to-back World Final victories in what was an incredibly tough fight with compatriot Miniman and West Country Wreckers teammates Looney and Brett. 997 qnd 474 made early headway but once WCW's head wrecker Splat and "coathanger" Pierce got on the oppo, they allowed 786 through for what would have been his first LFS Bangers title. Alas, it wasn't to be and after getting punted himself by Team Bandicoot's German contingent in newly numbered 961 Pepino on the pit bend, Brett agonisingly managed to roll it on the front straight just 3 laps from the finish. With the European Championship next week, it was therefore suitable that the top 5 were all continental drivers: Miniman claimed another major podium finish in 2nd with Czech driver Michal rounding out the podium, followed by the top two "losers" in Dutchman Colin and 961. As always, commiserations to those who finished the 22 lap race but got nothing for it.

Here are the results from the other races that took place on Friday, which were all non-points. Well done to all the winners:

Heat 1: Isaac, Cap, Rik, Jam, Jon, Miniman, Pepino, Brett, Looney, Splat
Heat 2: Rik, Cap, Brett, Looney, Colin, Jam, Isaac, Pepino, Miniman, Jon, Splat
Heat 3: Cap, Colin, Brett, Jam, Rik, Looney, Pepino
Heat 4: Jam, Brett, Cap, Looney, Jon, Colin, Rik, Pepino, Splat
Heat 5: Cap, Jam, Colin, Jon, Brett, Rik, Pepino, Splat
Heat 6: Colin, Cap, Rik, Jon, Brett, Looney, Pepino, Splat

Final: Cap, Jam, Brett, Colin, Looney, Rik, Pepino, Jon, Splat

Allcomers 1 (Tight Fit): Rik, Splat, Pepino, Cap
Allcomers 2: Jam, Jon, Looney, Rik, Colin, Brett, Splat, Pepino

DD: Rik

So, just to remind you:

In the run-up to the meeting, I noticed that the number of drivers who appeared to be attending would not be worthwhile for an all-DD meeting. Last year there were 16 drivers in 5 teams, with each team having at least 3 drivers. Tonight, only 1 team had 3 drivers, and I honestly did not see the point of running a meeting where some races would have only had 4 cars. I held a quick poll in the server to determine whether the drivers in attendance wanted Krash Kings or wanted a standard meeting instead. The latter was chosen.

Therefore, it was reverted to a standard team meeting with 9 drivers, including Scottish debutant 658 Ezza who teamed up with lone Team Bandicoot man Pepino. It was a rather hard-hitting meeting, with two-thirds of the field in XRGs, on the quick Hednesford layout which had some great racing mixed in as well.

The teams were as follows:

RIOT SQUAD
606 Jon
27 Cap

PIRANMOTO
616 Jam
47 Michal

WEST COUNTRY WRECKERS
870 Looney
228 Splat
786 Brett

PEPINO & EZZA
960 Pepino
658 Ezza

This meeting went down to the DD, where a surprise winner emerged...

Top 5 scored in heats and final. Allcomers were non-points. 5 points went to the winning pair in the DD.

DD: West Country Wreckers

POINTS
1st: Pepino & Ezza - 39 points
2nd: Riot Squad - 36 points
3rd: West Country Wreckers - 33 points
4th: PiranMoto - 17 points

A surprise pairing came out on top as vastly experienced Pepino and complete novice Ezza topped the table by just THREE POINTS ahead of Riot Squad in second, who themselves were just 3 ahead of the West Country Wreckers in third. The key spell for the German driver, who was top scorer on the night with 31 points, came in heats 3 to 5 where he won the lot and had point-scoring support from his Scottish teammate in two of the heats. Riot Squad had 4 second places but couldn't claim a win until the second Allcomers through Cap, while Brett picked up 27 of his team's points including a heat and crucial final win, alongside their specialist race of the DD. Surprisingly PiranMoto finished bottom, possibly due to their relative inexperience using the XRG in a banger environment. Nevertheless, they claimed three wins in total: a heat each for Michal and Jam, with the Czech driver also claiming the first Allcomers.

So, without further ado:

A slightly higher 11 drivers competed in the third and final round of the Micro Bangers championship at Aldershot. The Hampshire track gave some good racing and wrecking as the racers aimed to claim the crucial grid places for the World Final in 2 weeks. There were two English debutants in total newcomer 111 Grizzly and experienced RFactor driver 306 Pierce.

Rik was tonight's winner, claiming three heats and the final, to move him well up the order. Cap, who claimed the second all-car Allcomers, pipped Looney, who picked up a heat win, by just TWO POINTS to claim pole for the Gizmo's Stadium showdown. Miniman also won a heat, with Jam claiming the first Allcomers and Pepino the DD. Pierce made it a debut to remember with an understated drive to claim Heat 4: if you're winning on debut, you must be good!

Top 10 scored in heats and final. Allcomers were non-points. 5 points went to the winning driver in the DD.
