2019 Unlimited Icebreaker Results

Postby Jon#606 » Fri 18 Jan 2019, 11:54 pm

The first proper team meeting of the season saw Swaffham host the 2019 Unlimited Icebreaker, which had a superb turnout of 16 drivers spread across 5 teams. Dutchman 628 Stwarm made his league debut, while 887 Chris returned after a significant time away. The meeting proved to be an absolute joy, with incredible hits and racing throughout the entire night; two meetings in a row with this level of entertainment cannot be overlooked, so once again a massive thank you to everyone who took part.

The four teams were as follows:

RIOT SQUAD
606 Jon
887 Chris

THE MOAT MOB
573 Shane
673 Sam M.

PIRANMOTO
616 Jam
47 Michal

TEAM BANDICOOT
474 Miniman
66 Colin
628 Stwarm
961 Pepino*
966 Crash Jr.*

WORLD CLASS WRECKERS
786 Brett
870 Looney
515 Josh
911 Cole
337 Spook*

Riot Squad were the reigning champions having only just won the title in 2018, and both Jon and Colin returned to attempt to defend their title, although #66 was with Team Bandicoot.

The winners this year took the title in some style, claiming the meeting before the DD, although the final scoreline looked closer than it was...

Top 5 scored in heats and final. Allcomers were non-points. Drivers in italics finished but did not score points. 5 points went to the winning team in the DD.

POINTS

5th: Riot Squad - 12 points

The now correctly-named World Class Wreckers came out on top in what was a largely balanced meeting until the final, where a WCW 1-2-3 took away any hope of Team Bandicoot winning the title. The meeting's star performer was surprisingly WCW's Brett, who chose the FXO over his usual XRT and benefitted massively from it, with the crucial final victory coming with two seconds and two thirds in the heats. WCW were helped by the more roddier members of the side, with all of Looney, Josh and Cole claiming a heat (the latter of whom claimed an Allcomers too) and Spook picking up a rare race win in the Allcomers. Team Bandicoot pushed hard but it was to no avail as despite two wins for Miniman in the heats and a win for Colin in the DD, they didn't pick up multiple points on enough occasions to really challenge. Jam won the opening race of the night and an Allcomers for PiranMoto but again both Michal & him couldn't finish in the top 5 at the same time, while it was a totally different scenario for the "adventurous" Moat Mob; Shane won 2 heats and got 2 seconds for 100% of their points as Sam M. kept firmly to the oppo and got a large number of hits in while doing so. As for last year's champions Riot Squad, with Cap having all but retired, it was up to Jon and guest driver Chris to try and challenge, but despite a number of decent starts in races, only got third once and ended up bottom of the pile... but I guess it's the taking part that counts rather than the victory, right?

So, our winners:
