GB v Europe Head-to-Head Results

Postby Jon#606 » Sat 12 Nov 2016, 12:46 am

Apologies for the hectic start to tonight's meeting and my repeated disconnections throughout; I'm away on holiday again and didn't get set up properly until about 30 minutes before the meeting, and then I had two laptop overheats. I should be fine for next week.

In a change to the originally planned all-Unlimited meeting, after a suggestion from Cap the meeting was run as a dual-formula dual-track affair, with a British (clockwise) and European (anti-clockwise) track used alongside the 2 Litres and Unlimited cars.

There were 19 drivers in attendance for the first head-to-head meeting between the British Isles and the continent, with the teams split 10-9 in the end. As usual in these sorts of two-team meetings, there were a number of controversial incidents between the sides that caused bad blood. Please keep your hits as legal as possible.

The teams were as follows:

TEAM GB
27 Cap
200 Youngy
220 Nova
228 Splat
616 Jam
779 Luke
786 Brett
870 Looney
910 Niall
919 Macca

TEAM EUROPE
47 Michal
66 Hammertime
212 Bokito
380 Pennywise
474 Miniman
502 Reizenderam
606 Jon
669 DarkMetalTim
960 Pepino

All races were for points, and only the Top 5 counted. Drivers who finished outside of the Top 5 are in italics. Points for each side after each race are listed after the race result.

Unlims UK Track Heat 1: Niall, Pepino, Nova, Pennywise, Macca, Bokito, Splat, Jam, Cap, Youngy - GB 9 - 6 EU
Unlims UK Track Heat 2: Miniman, Pepino, Niall, Hammertime, Bokito, Jam, Michal, Splat, Nova, Jon, Macca - GB 3 - 12 EU

2 Litres UK Track Heat 1: Nova, Hammertime, Jam, Splat, Pennywise, Bokito, Youngy, Macca, Niall, Cap, Michal, Pepino, Looney - GB 10 - 5 EU
2 Litres UK Track Heat 2: Nova, Youngy, Pepino, Cap, Jam, Hammertime, Looney, Niall, Splat, Macca, DarkMetalTim, Luke, Reizenderam - GB 12 - 3 EU

Unlims European Track Heat 1: Youngy, Nova, Michal, Niall, Cap, Bokito, Splat, Macca, Jam, Looney, Brett - GB 12 - 3 EU
Unlims European Track Heat 2: Youngy, Nova, Splat, Michal, Pepino, Cap, Looney, Jam, Hammertime, Macca, Bokito, Niall, Luke - GB 12 - 3 EU

2 Litres European Track Heat 1: Nova, Looney, Niall, Cap, Michal, Pepino, Miniman, Hammertime, Pennywise, Macca - GB 14 - 1 EU
2 Litres European Track Heat 2: Niall, Nova, Miniman, Cap, Youngy, Looney, Jam, Macca, Michal, Bokito, Splat, Luke, Brett - GB 12 - 3 EU

At this stage, the points for each team were counted and the leaders would have the Unlimited Final and 2 Litre DD on their track, while the side behind would have the 2 Litre Final and Unlimited DD on their track. With the score at this stage 84-36 to GB, it was arranged in the following way (track used in brackets):

Unlimited Final (UK): Niall, Nova, Pepino, Cap, Youngy, Michal, Splat, Pennywise, Jam - GB 24 - 6 EU

2 Litre Final (EU): Nova, NIall, Cap, Jam, Corsa, Pennywise, Michal, Looney, Luke, Brett, Bokito - GB 30 - 0 EU

Unlimited DD (EU): Europe - 5 points to Europe

2 Litre DD (UK): Britain - 5 points to Britain

FINAL OVERALL SCORE: BRITAIN 143 - 47 EUROPE

To say this was a completely one-sided affair is not entirely true. After a promising start by the continental team, leading after the second and third races of the evening, all hell broke loose as a combination of punishing top 5 finishes alongside the European team being stopped repeatedly on the oppo by the likes of Splat and Brett and then completely losing their way on Warneton - including an embarrassing whitewash in the 2 Litre Final - saw Britain take the meeting with ease. The reds' star performers were unarguably Nova and Niall, with the former picking up 4 wins and the latter 3. Youngy also chipped in with 2 wins of his own while Miniman was the only individual driver to claim a race for Europe. The blues fared a little better in the DDs, taking the Unlimited one but managing to lose in a 5 v 1 situation in the 2 Litre version, although when that 1 is DD master Splat, it's not easy to see why!
