LFS Bangers

Round 1
Twenty drivers turned up for the opening meeting of the Unlimited series on 4th March. In a change to the original venue of the Autocross Skid Pad, Autocross Ipswich was used instead. This was because drivers were concerned that the Skid Pad track was going to be too tight with the number of people competing. The change proved beneficial as the track provided some great racing and crashing.

There was yet another league debutant in 70 Aaron. Aaron had a good debut with two top 10 finishes in the heats and another in the final.

After a largely indifferent season for him, Kane finally produced a performance that showed him at his unstoppable best. With four heat wins and no finishes below third in any points race, the World and Points Champion took the meeting with relative ease. His only challenger was Rik, who took one heat, the final, an allcomers and amazingly the DD, but failure to score in two of the opening three heats was the reason he didn't make it to the top spot. Looney picked up the other heat win while Nay and Cap shared the other two allcomers between them.

Round 2
A total of nineteen drivers appeared at Arena Essex for the second round of the Unlimited series this evening. Arena Essex proved as brutal in LFS as it is in real life, with a number of drivers having their races destroyed thanks to some big hits that launched many drivers over the barriers and out of the track altogether!

Unfortunately, there was an incident at the start of the meeting that caused a lot of bad blood and rule breaking for the rest of the evening. Disciplinary action will be required as what was happening was downright pathetic and embarrassing and seriously dragged down the enjoyment of the night. I don't want to have to deal with this sort of thing again.

Despite winning four heats and not finishing lower than third in any race he finished, Rik missed out on winning the round thanks to reigning World and Points champion Kane outfinishing him in the final and pipping him to the round by just THREE points. Kane won a heat of his own with third place on the night Pepino winning the final and fourth placed Nova taking a heat and two allcomers. Looney won the DD in hilarious fashion after Splat's attempted follow-in rolled himself instead of #870.

Round 3
A total of fourteen drivers raced at Cowdenbeath for the final Unlimited series qualifier this evening. While the Racewall wasn't as destructive as it can be, it still provided a good number of big hits on those big bends alongside some great racing; Jake W. was so focused on taking people out that he failed to place in any race!

My computer problems reared up again but were more tolerable than last week. It is still incredibly irritating though.

After a scoreless performance in round 1 and an absence from round 2, Miniman more than made up for it by taking the final qualifier in style. Alongside a heat win, the Dutchman finished second in all but 2 of the point scoring races on offer to end the night on a fine 70 points and secure sixth place on the World Final grid. Current Banger World Series champion Rik could only compete in the first two races but made them count as he won both to leapfrog absent reigning Unlimited champion Kane and secure the #1 grid spot for the big one at Ipswich in October. Looney picked up a heat, the final and the DD, somehow flipping Zotez over the barriers when #870 was nearly dead, and Cap won a heat and an allcomers. Finally, we had two first time LFS Bangers race winners as 111 Josh took the last heat while 919 Macca took the second allcomers.
