2 Litre Best Buds 2016 Results
Posted: Fri 08 Jul 2016, 10:54 pm
A smaller number of drivers for the second Best Buds meeting of the season saw five pairs competing to take the 2 Litre Best Buds title. As with the previous round, the NZ Oval was changed at the last second due to its size and replaced by Yarmouth.
What followed was quite easily one of the best nights of big hitting for a long time, with the first heat setting the tone for the rest of the meeting and it never dropped. Every driver who competed tonight delivered some monstrous hits and it was a great laugh, with the heats going so quickly we managed to have FOUR allcomers! More of this in the future, please.
The ten drivers who competed were as follows:
RIOT SQUAD
606 Jon
27 Cap
WEST COUNTRY WARRIORS
870 Looney
228 Splat
THE BEARS
997 Rik
616 Jam
THE YOUNGS
997 Rik
616 Jam
THE PREDARUNNERS
779 Luke
238 Kane
There was a tight fight at the top again, but one pairing managed to edge it in the final and then sealed it in the DD...
Top 6 scored in heats and final. Allcomers were non-points. Drivers in italics finished but did not score points. 5 points went to the winning pair in the DD.

POINTS
1st: The Youngs - 48 points

4th: The Predarunners - 27 points
5th: West Country Warriors - 17 points
Two of the biggest rodders in LFS Bangers' history lived up to their reputation as the Young brothers in Youngy and Nova took the title, but not without a fight. Although the two of them only won one heat, that going to #220, #200 supported him with points finishes in all but one heat and got a crucial second in the final while the European Champion missed out on the top 6. The two-time World Champion then went one further by defeating the WCW pair in the DD to secure the title, with the two of them having equally shared all the allcomers between them beforehand.
Jam demonstrated his adaptability once again as he paired up with Rik and actually outscored the current British and World Cup champion, including three consecutive second places in the opening heats to score 27 to the Dutchman's 14. #997 himself took a single heat. Riot Squad came third with Cap's two heat wins the most by any team tonight, The Predarunners (consisting of the most unlikely pairing in Kane and Luke) won a heat and the final but #238's 27 points had precisely zero support from #779 (as ever
) with the West Country Warriors coming last despite Splat taking a rare non-DD win with the fifth heat.
Youngy and Nova have enjoyed a renaissance since their return at the end of 2015, but this furthered that revival, with #200 the highest scorer of the night on 33 points and #220 nicely contributing with 15 points.
So, without further ado:
