Round 1
Ten drivers competed in the first round of the 2019 Micros Championship. In a late change to the scheduled venue, the Indoor Drift Oval was replaced by the classic Blackwood Car Park Oval. This was due to a number of concerns from drivers regarding the surface of the indoor arena not being particularly grippy for racing, and from myself in regards to the fact the circuit is way too short for a proper length 12 lap race (as laps can be done roughly 3 seconds quicker than a standard lap, which is significantly noticeable over time).
Away from the negatives though and tonight saw two new league debutants in Dutchman 320 Meijer and Lithuanian 404 Naglas, who both produced some excellent racing alongside the regulars. There were a number of good hits as well tonight despite the focus being on points.
Reigning 2 Litre British champ Pepino came out on top in the opening round by a far margin thanks to a pair of heat wins, a second in the final and only failing to finish in the top 3 on one occasion, where he finished fifth in heat 2. Former European champion Jam came second largely due to his final win, while former Unlim World champ Looney claimed three heats (including heat 5 by 0.01 seconds!) but failed to place high enough in the final to challenge and finished third. Meijer's second in heat 4 and third in the final put him fourth in a very impressive debut, while teammate Stwarm claimed a heat and an Allcomers to finish 5th. Sam M. claimed the first Allcomers and ended up sixth, with Colin's DD success securing him seventh. Brett was the only other winner, although his focus on wrecking in the heats to downgrade saw him score just 6 points!
Top 10 scored in heats and final. Allcomers were non-points. 5 points went to the winning driver in the DD
