The big cars' main title of 2017 was decided tonight with the 2017 Unlimited World Final, held at Ipswich for the third year in succession. The World Final meeting also saw a league debutant in 595 Jack B., along with the return of 142 Tomski for the first time since 2016's British Championship!

A rather large proportion of the qualified drivers didn't attend, with 7 of the 16 failing to show. Three non-qualified drivers - the aforementioned Tomski, Jack B. and 669 Mr. Perfect Jr. - all made the World Final grid, but their positions were decided in a much more creative manner than usual. All three drivers were entered into a 6 lap dash where the fastest lap won. By ONE HUNDRETH of a second (14.79 to 14.80) Tomski claimed the highest grid position ahead of Mr. Perfect Jr., who were both well ahead of Jack B., who recorded a rather pedestrian 14.94.

As a result, the twelve drivers who contested the 2017 Unlimited World Final were as follows:

616 Jam - - - - - - - - - - - - 27 Cap
47 Michal - - - - - - - - - - - 870 Looney
606 Jon - - - - - - - - - - - - 786 Brett
960 Pepino - - - - - - - - - - 66 Colin
142 Tomski - - - - - - - - - - 128 Isaac
595 Jack B. - - - - - - - - - - 669 Mr. Perfect Jr.

Despite the low numbers, there was a prolonged battle for the lead which eventually resulted in one driver speeding away to claim the gold...

1st: Looney
2nd: Isaac
3rd: Cap
Other finishers: Tomski, Michal, Jam, Jack B., Brett

After four years of trying, Looney has finally claimed a gold roof, helped in part by the oppo antics of Brett. But performances over the years have proved that #870 is worthy of a big crown, and it was unfortunate that two years running saw him finish in second, but his win saw him completely dominate the field and lapping the lot. Isaac surprised everyone with his first ever second, managing to surpass a battling pack of four drivers, of whom only Cap made it onto the podium once again in third. As always, commiserations to those who finished the 22 lap race but got nothing for it.

Looney has put in incalculable time and effort into the league since his rejoining in 2014, providing both the server and forum after the providers used by Cap went out of operation, as well as performing admin duties when needed. He is not just a credit to LFS Bangers, but an integral part of its recent history. Congratulations are more than deserved for not just the World Final win, but for all the support over the past few seasons.
