2017 FIGURE 8 WORLD FINAL RESULTS

Postby Jon#606 » Fri 13 Oct 2017, 11:37 pm

The crossover chaos of the 2017 Figure 8 Championship came to a conclusion tonight with the Figure 8 World Final from Wimbledon. A notable returnee was 900 Joey, appearing in his first meeting since February 2016! It was a destructive meeting all around as Wimbo's posts killed pretty much every competitor at some stage!

As with the last World FInal held on here, there were a significant number of absentees, with half of the 14 drivers that qualified failing to attend. Four drivers who attended - 669 Mr. Perfect Jr., 786 Brett, the previously mentioned Joey and 960 Pepino - did not compete in a qualifier and so had to qualify through the Last Chance race. However, due to the low numbers of qualified drivers, it was agreed that another "Last Chance Lap Test" would be held to determine their positions. The former 2 Litre World Champion Pepino came out on top, 0.4 seconds ahead of 669, who was over half a second ahead of 786, with 900 failing to record a time and was subsequently placed last.

As a result, the eleven drivers who contested the 2017 Figure 8 World Final were as follows:

616 Jam - - - - - - - - - - - - 27 Cap
606 Jon - - - - - - - - - - - - 997 Rik
870 Looney - - - - - - - - - 66 Colin
960 Pepino - - - - - - - - - - 167 Huski
786 Brett- - - - - - - - - - - - 669 Mr. Perfect Jr.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - 900 Joey

Unfortunately, the small field combined with the large Wimbledon circuit meant that the winner broke away from the pack relatively early on and was never caught...

2017 FIGURE 8 WORLD FINAL:
1st: Rik
2nd: Jam
3rd: Colin
Other finishers: Cap, Looney

Rik surprisingly hadn't claimed a World Final title before this meeting, with two BWS titles, the British grades title and a World Cup in his time on here, but completely dominated the field, lapping the lot in victory to claim his fifth big title. Current European champion Jam ended up second, while it was a first World podium for Colin in third. As always, commiserations to those who finished the 22 lap race but got nothing for it.

Here are the results from the other races that took place on Friday, which were all non-points. Well done to all the winners:

Heat 1: Jam, Cap, Pepino, Jon
Heat 2: Huski, Cap, Rik, Colin
Heat 3: Huski, Jam, Pepino, Rik, Cap, Brett, Joey
