The first meeting of the 2020 Live For Speed Bangers mini-season, with the first round of the 2 Litres' points championship at their iconic home of the Blackwood Car Park Oval saw a wonderful turnout of 15 drivers with 4 drivers making their "proper meeting" debuts, all from Team Huichen. These drivers were Englishmen 85 Mozza, 199 Taylor and 240 JL and Lithuanian 171 Airis, with all of them behaving exceptionally well throughout the night. In addition, the fifth Team Huichen member 675 Beatdrop and Northern Irish driver 966 Matt made their maiden appearances in the 2 Litre Grades.
It was double Dutch delight as 66 Colin and the newly-numbered 621 Miniman (previously 474) tied at the top with 62 points each, although it could have been so much different were it not for the climax to the DD. Colin won a superb 4 out of 6 heats to give him an early lead at the top of the table, but Miniman managed to claw it back with a heat win, two 2nds and a third before picking up a vital final win. The other points race winner on the night was Mozza, being the only white top to win a heat as well as the second Allcomers. The DD had these three drivers involved in a battle that looked to be concluding with 1 point each. However, with just FIVE SECONDS left on the timer, 66 rolled over 621 and claimed his 62nd and final point to tie at the top with his Team Bandicoot teammate as 85 also picked up two points. Unsurprisingly these three were the top three in the points, with Mozza ending up 9 points behind the Bandicoot pairing.
Airis also had a debut to remember with second in the final as well as two thirds in the heats sending him to fourth in the table with 48 points, nine ahead of tonight's other Northern Irishman in 515 Josh who finished third in the final and claimed two seconds in the heats. 628 Stwarm, who finished sixth in the points, was the night's other winner with the first Allcomers. A mention to Taylor and JL as well who scored solidly to end up moving out of the white grade at the first attempt; 240 had the best result of the two with a second in heat 6.
Top 10 scored in heats and final. Two Allcomers were also held. Drivers in 11th or lower finished but did not score points. 5 points went to the DD winner; in the event of a tie, it would be 2 points each.
Colin is ahead of Miniman on the points table due to a higher number of race wins (Colin's 4.5 to Miniman's 1), and Femme is ahead of Jon on the points table due to a higher best race finish (Femme's 2nd to Jon's 4th).
